The Timeless Craft: Analogue Photography Workshops in Venice

In my early days as a photographer, I honed my craft with film cameras—a medium that instilled virtues of patience, precision, and intentionality. Today, in an age overwhelmed by the immediacy and volume of digital photography, the art of analogue stands as a captivating alternative. It's not just a nostalgic trip back in time but a thoughtful practice that encourages a slower, more mindful approach to capturing images. With each frame you expose, there's an investment not only of film but also of thoughtfulness and consideration. This workshop invites you to rediscover creating intentional, purposeful shots with unique joy and profound meaning.

Step back in time to explore the origins and allure of analogue photography in one of the world's most photogenic cities: Venice, Italy. Led by award-winning photographer Marco Secchi, this 6-hour immersive workshop aims to acquaint you with the art of film photography, teaching you to create images imbued with meaning and intentionality.

What You'll Learn:

  • Camera Anatomy: An in-depth look at the mechanical aspects of a film camera, from aperture settings to focus rings.

  • Film Types and Selection: Understanding the different film types and their impact on your final images.

  • Metering and Exposure: Master the essential techniques for precise metering to capture scenes in varying lighting conditions.

  • Composition: A focus on creating powerful compositions that tell a compelling story.

  • Mindfulness in Photography: Discover how the limitations of film can enrich your experience, turning every shot into a thoughtful decision.

The Experience:

Our journey begins in the heart of Venice, where the charm of the city’s architecture and canals serve as the perfect backdrop for our analogue escapade. This workshop aims not just to refine your photographic skills but to deepen your understanding of the techniques that make film photography an enduring art form. As we navigate through the nuances of analogue in a predominantly digital era, I invite you to share in the delight and discovery that comes with mastering vintage cameras and film.
